Actors Meg Donnelly (American Housewife) and Drake Rodger (Quiet In My Town) will star in the pilot of the Supernatural prequel, titled The Winchesters. Entertainment Weekly was the first to report the casting news.
Donnelly and Rodger join previously-announced cast members Nida Khurshi and Jojo Fleites.
In 2020, Supernatural ended its impressive 15-season run on the CW, with a complete series set on Blu-Ray hitting shelves in May 2021. Through all those episodes, the series follows brothers Sam and Dean Winchester as they hunt demons, ghosts, monsters, and other supernatural beings. In the prequel series, Donnelly and Rodger will play John and Mary--the parents of the demon-hunting brothers. The Winchesters will be told from the Dean's perspective, with Jensen Ackles lending his voice to the pilot as narrator according to The Hollywood Reporter. The new show is being billed as «the epic, untold love story of how John met Mary and how they put it all on the line to not only save their love, but the entire world.»
Via Entertainment Weekly, a further synopsis and character information reveals that Mary is a 19-year-old who's been «fighting the forces of darkness» since she was a child, while John is a «selfless and clear-headed» Vietnam veteran. When a personal tragedy leads Mary to consider quitting the family business, John's arrival--coupled with her father's disappearance--leads her to take on a new mission.
