A CD-ROM containing a demo for a previously unknown Gex the Gecko sequel, called Gex Jr., was leaked on April 2nd, 2022. Gex first debuted in 1995 in Gex with two more games, Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, released in 1998 and 1999. The trilogy featured the titular character, a secret agent with a snarky personality and an addiction to TV, exploring a variety of TV-themed levels and battling the evil Emperor Rez.
The Gex games are a series of platformers developed by Crystal Dynamics. The player navigates Gex through levels, or channels, all inspired by different media and genres. There were channels inspired by horror, cartoons, anime, kaiju movies, Christmas specials, and more. All the while, Gex would periodically shout pop culture references and catchphrases like «It's tail time!» The goal of each game was to stop Gex's arch-nemesis, Emperor Rez, from conquering «The Media Dimension,» otherwise known as the world inside the television. Gex had allies such as his butler Alfred, his love interest/secret agent partner Agent Xtra, and his cousin Cuz. In the North American version of the games, Gex was voiced by the comedian Dana Gould.
