As a clone hybrid of Superman and Lex Luthor, Superboy (aka Conner Kent) has taken after both of his fathers in a number of ways. Similar to Clark, Conner once crossed paths with a boy in Smallville who may grow up to be his greatest enemy.
While the continuities vary, Lex has often been portrayed as hailing from the little Kansas town Smallville, the same area Clark Kent was raised in by his adoptive Earth parents. And though it appeared in an older DC Universe, the two have once been shown to be friends around the time Clark began his superhero career as Superboy. While both Clark and Lex's pasts are periodically reworked, it's generally accepted that the two were from the same town and they did know each other in their childhood.

And as it turns out, history would repeat itself in the form of their cloned offspring, Conner Kent. Conner relocated to Smallville shortly after he was resurrected in an attempt to figure out his life. Around the same time, he met and befriended Simon Valentine, Smallville High's resident boy genius and weirdo. However, while the two form a friendship, a time-displaced hero named Psionic Lad, travels back in time to warn Superboy about Smallville's future fate. He tells Conner the town will one day become a fascist stronghold led by a despot called the Prime Hunter. As a cover, Psionic Lad initially leads Conner to believe he's come to train to be a better hero so he can defeat Prime Hunter in the future. However, it's revealed in Superboy #9, by Jeff Lemire and Pier Gallo, that Psionic Lad has actually come back in time to kill Simon, who will one day become the future menace.
