Ever since it was announced that the 3DS and Wii U's online services would be shut down in April, a dedicated group of Super Mario Maker fans set out on a mission to complete every level in the game that was yet to be beaten. That sounds simple, but levels in Super Mario Maker usually remain unbeaten because they're monstrously difficult, with only a handful of players capable of even getting close to completing them.
To complete their task, a group of players were assembled called Team 0%, who then went about beating every unbeaten level before the servers shut down next month. Progress was being made at a steady pace, and the team soon came up against the final level between them and completing Super Mario Maker, that being Trimming the Herbs. Thousands upon thousands of attempts were made to beat the level, leading some to suspect foul play.
Turns out, those suspicions were warranted, as the creator of Trimming the Herbs came out and admitted that the level was TAS, meaning it had been created and then beaten with a tool. Creator Ahoyo admitted that when they created the level back in 2017, they had expected players to discover it was TAS almost instantly, but it ended up being abandoned and forgotten about until Team 0%'s self-imposed challenge.
With the knowledge that Trimming the Herbs was made with TAS and is likely impossible for humans to beat, Team 0% decided to deem the level an illegitimate upload and haven't included it on their list of levels to beat. Therefore, the final level of Super Mario Maker was actually beaten a week ago, after Twitter user Yamada_SMM2 uploaded their successful run of the fittingly named level The Last Dance.
However, just because Trimming the Herbs has been deemed impossible by one group of players, it doesn't mean that everyone has given up the fight. In Team 0%'s celebratory tweet thanking all of their fans for support, they explain that some people are still plugging away at Trimming the Herbs in an attempt to beat it
