Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 4 — «Memento Mori»
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has subtly remade a classic Star Trek: The Original Series episode in season 1, episode 4. Strange New Worlds is a prequel series that portrays the adventures of Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his Enterprise crew prior to James T. Kirk (William Shatner) taking command. Given the series' classic Star Trek aesthetic, it's hardly surprising that the occasional episode evokes the Gene Roddenberry original.
In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, season 1, episode 4 «Memento Mori,» the crew of the Enterprise is on the run from the original Star Trek villains, the Gorn, who have ambushed them after attacking a Federation colony. The attack takes place on Starfleet Remembrance Day when Starfleet officers remember their fallen comrades, and by the end of the episode, more officers have given their lives in service of Galactic peace. The Gorn attack reminds La'an Noonien-Singh (Christina Chong) of her own ordeal at the hands of a species that the Federation hasn't yet officially encountered. The basic plot and the structure of the episode recall what is technically a later adventure for Kirk and Spock (Leonard Nimoy)
