Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Rebecca Romijn recently teased Captain James T. Kirk's emotional return to television. The series was announced in 2020 as spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery following Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock's (Ethan Peck) appearances during season 2. Strange New Worlds is the latest entry in the long-running franchise since writer-producer Alex Kurtzman was tasked to rebrand the universe for a new audience.
The new show follows on Captain Pike and the crew of the USS Enterprise five years prior to Star Trek: The Original Series, when James T. Kirk would eventually helm the famed Federation starship. Although season 1 includes many The Original Series characters such as Spock, Nyota Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), Nurse Christine Chapel (Jess Bush), as well as Number One (Romijn) and Doctor M'Benga (Babs Olusanmokun), who both only appeared in a couple of episodes, Kirk was nowhere to be seen. In March, The Vampire Diaries star Paul Wesley was cast as Kirk for the Strange New Worlds season 2.
