FromSoftware's extremely popular Elden Ring video game is being turned into a board game by Steamforged Games.
Steamforged has been around since 2014 and is well-versed at turning video games into board games. Previously the Manchester-based company has adapted Resident Evil, Ni No Kuni, Devil May Cry, Monster Hunter World, Horizon Zero Dawn, and Dark Souls(Opens in a new window) into board games, so Elden Ring: The Board Game(Opens in a new window) should come as no surprise.
It should also come as no surprise that a Kickstarter campaign will be run to fund the creation of the game. When Steamforged used Kickstarter for the Dark Souls board game back in 2016, it raised over $5 million, so it was a no-brainer to repeat the exercise. When you consider Elden Ring has now sold well over 16 million copies across PC and consoles, it would be surprising if the Kickstarter didn't raise considerably more than Dark Souls managed.
Steamforged is promising to recreate the challenge of the video game for up to four players, "through intelligent, dice-free combat, requiring players to strategise and adapt their plans during each encounter — whether that be a lowly Godrick Soldier or the Grafted King himself."
The launch date of the Kickstarter campaign hasn't been announced yet, but you can sign up to be notified(Opens in a new window) when it goes live. Over 14,000 people have already put their name down, which goes to show how popular this board game is going to be. Just don't expect it to be an easy or quick game to play.
