Steamforged Games Releasing Two New Dark Souls Core Sets

Even with the new Elden Ring news, Steamforged Games doesn’t want their fans to think they have forgotten about their roots. Steamforged Games recently announced that they will be releasing TWO new Dark Souls Core Sets on November 8, 2022. Wait, TWO new Core Sets? Yes… TWO! Ok, no more caps. Sorry.

Tomb of the Giants, ruled by Gravelord Nito, and Painted World of Ariamas, featuring Crossbreed Priscilla, are currently available for Pre Order for $110 each.

Both sets include 18 unpainted miniatures:

They also include everything else you need to play Dark Souls (game tiles, cards, dice, dashboards, etc.)

But Brian, what if I already own the original Dark Souls game from Steamforge’s 2016 Kickstarter? Fret not, all of the new content is compatible with your Dark Souls game.

But Brian, I didn’t like Dark Souls. The rules were bad and the campaign was… lacking. Why would I buy the new core sets? Fret not, part 2, as Steamforged has redone the rules for these two core sets. The rules have been tweaked, changed, and streamlined. There is a new event system, changes to the encounter system, as well as new campaign rules. They have Designer Diaries discussing this in more detail.

Most importantly, these new rules will also be posted on their website as a free download. This was confirmed in the Dark Soul’s Kickstarter update #200.

Players who supported the original campaign will not be forced to buy the core sets to have access to the new rules; however, how much of the new event and campaign systems will require cards in the core sets vs. will be supported via the updated rules.
