One way in which farming and life simulator Stardew Valley appeals to its players is by giving them the ability to bond with adorable animals. Players can add ducks, pigs, horses, cows, and even dinosaurs and slimes to their Stardew Valley farm. These animals require only a single daily petting and feeding, and in turn respond by producing milk, eggs, wool, and other goods the player can sell. Additionally, the horse serves as a faster mode of transportation, allowing the player to gallop around Stardew Valley and the neighboring Pelican Town.
Early in the game, the player is also given the opportunity to adopt either a dog or a cat. Unlike the other animals, the dog or cat does not require feeding and does not produce any goods to sell, although players can raise affection by petting it and filling its water bowl. While the dog or cat is arguably the most decorative and least beneficial of the pets, it is among the most popular, with many Stardew Valley players taking to the Internet to share comparisons between their in-game pet and their real-life dog or cat.
Stardew Valley Mishap Gives Player's Farm a Weird Name
One Stardew Valley player, who goes by the Reddit username u/Limp-Restaurant4628, enjoyed the in-game dog so much that they could not be satisfied with just one. Using a mobile-based mod called 'Stardew Save Editor,' they added 24 additional dogs to their save file for a total of 25 identical pet pooches. Since then, u/Limp-Restaurant4628 has shared their adventures with their 25 dogs for the game's Reddit community to enjoy. One day, all 25 dogs appeared on the same in-game tile, creating a multi-headed dog creature the community nicknamed 'Cerberus,' after the mythical guardian of Hades in Greek mythology.
