A London-based artist has given FromSoftware's latest game, Elden Ring, the demake treatment, swapping out its rich and detailed graphics for a blocky, pixelated PS1-era look. Elden Ring released to rave reviews last week, with many calling it a masterpiece, and the new title has been one of the main talking points in the gaming community since.
Elden Ring's impressive visuals and scale make it a prime candidate for the «demake» treatment, which is where a modern game, usually one known for its high-quality graphics, is recreated to resemble gaming generations of old, typically adopting the style of NES, SNES, or PS1-era titles. The popular trend can sometimes create some hilarious or fascinating results, whilst providing a heavy hit of nostalgia for gamers who might also find themselves in awe of how far gaming technology has come in the past few decades. The recently-released playable Bloodborne demake is a perfect example of the practice, and gives the FromSoftware classic a new lease of life.

As reported by TheGamer, 3D artist and VFX supervisor Hoolopee has shared a look at their impressive demake of the Elden Ring trailer, which can now be found on their YouTube channel alongside demakes of Resident Evil Village and Death Stranding. Their Elden Ring demake reimagines the 2022 game as a PS1 title complete with sharp, angular character models formed of minimal polygons, pixelated textures, and a reduced frame rate, and yet still retains the breathtaking feel of Hidetaka Miyazaki's game, which is evident in the side-by-side comparison.
