The producer of Moon Knight explains the upcoming show's lack of connection to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The upcoming Disney+ miniseries stars Oscar Isaac as the Marvel comic book superhero character, a character not yet adapted into cinematic form by Marvel. Moon Knight appears to offer an intriguing addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, due to its unconventional plot and the unprecedentedly complex character of Moon Knight.
In Moon Knight, Isaac portrays Marc Spector, a war-veteran and mercenary diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), who becomes involved in a dangerous battle with nefarious forces after making a pact with an Egyptian moon god. Combined with his own struggles with mental illness and trauma, the battle unearths and exacerbates the mysterious states of his alters, which include timid civilian Steven Grant, as well as the titular Moon Knight character. To the excitement of Marvel fans, the new show debuts on Disney+ on March 30 – but from early trailers and interviews, Moon Knight increasingly appears relatively disconnected from the rest of the beloved MCU web.

In an interview with /Film, executive producer Grant Curtis explains how and why Moon Knight stands alone and apart from its Marvel cinematic predecessors.
