Star Wars has finally revealed why Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost didn't intervene in the sequel era. The Star Wars original trilogy came to a head with the dramatic redemption of Darth Vader. The love of his son finally drew Anakin away from the dark side, and he betrayed the Emperor, sacrificing himself to defeat the Sith Lord. His redemption was signified by a glimpse of Anakin's Force Ghost in the closure of the trilogy, for only through the light side can a being become a Force Ghost.
Curiously, though, Anakin's Force Ghost largely decided to sit the sequel trilogy out. That's particularly strange given the sequels are essentially an exploration of his legacy, with Kylo Ren and Rey representing different visions of who Anakin Skywalker really was. One sought to honor the way of the Sith, the other the way of the Jedi, and the tug-of-war between the two symbolically shattered Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Palpatine used visions of Darth Vader to manipulate Kylo Ren, while Rey claimed the Skywalker name in the end. And yet, despite all these connections, Anakin Skywalker remained silent.

Adam Christopher's latest Star Wars novel, Shadow of the Sith, finally explains why Anakin Skywalker didn't get involved with the sequels. The story is set 17 years after the events of Return of the Jedi, and 13 before Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Anakin manifests as a Force Ghost to protect him, but the experience exhausts him, and there are hints the dark side forces on Exegol are affecting him.
