StarTrek: Picard knows one of its former romances was ill-advised. Star Trek: Picard's debut season ended on a joyous note, with Jean-Luc cunningly avoiding death, and the galaxy saved from mechanical insurrection. Adding to that sugar-sweet conclusion, the main cast rapidly began pairing off. On one side of the relation-ship, Seven and Raffi began firing off sparks, on the other, Cristobal Rios and Dr. Agnes Jurati started sharing a bunk. Alas, by the time Star Trek: Picard season 2 begins, neither relationship is blossoming.
With Raffi back in Starfleet and Seven once again serving the Fenris Rangers, their romance has been sadly shoved onto the back-burner, both women choosing duty over personal pursuits. Still, they're luckier than Rios and Jurati, whose split was obviously about more than just professional commitments. They can barely manage one conversation without making snide remarks over some relationship fail, It's the messiest Star Trek breakup since Captain Kirk and his beloved Enterprise in Star Trek III: The Search For Spock. The multi-coupling of Star Trek: Picard season 1's finale attracted accusations of pairing characters for the sake of pairing, rather than because they worked… and it seems the show itself agrees.

In season 2's «Monsters,» Star Trek: Picard more or less admits the Rios & Jurati romance was a terrible idea. Back aboard La Sirena after reviving Jean-Luc (again), Seven and Raffi are reeling from the unexpected news that Jurati (under influence from the Borg Queen) gave Rios a surprise smooch.
