Netflix announces that Squid Game season 2 has been greenlit, while creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teases new and returning characters. Squid Game season 1 took the world by storm when it hit Netflix in 2021. Speculation has since run rampant about when the streamer would finally give the go ahead for season 2.
Squid Game creator Dong-hyuk has for his part remained largely optimistic during all this season 2 speculation while dropping occasional hints of what he has in store for fans. Back in April, Dong-hyuk offered up a huge bit of news when he confirmed that Squid Game season 1 main protagonist Gi-hun would be back for season 2 along with the mysterious masked villain the Front Man. In May, theSquid Game mastermind offered another tease when he said season 2 would deal with themes of solidarity. He also promised in May that Squid Game season 2 would feature “better games” than those in season 1.

All these teases were of course offered in the absence of a Squid Game season 2 confirmation from Netflix. But now the streamer has ended the suspense by announcing that season 2 is officially greenlit. They also offered up a creepy teaser video which can be seen in the space below. Also in the space below is a message from Dong-hyuk offering a few updates about the new season:
