Square Enix saw 14% increase in Q1 sales
pcgamesinsider.bizJapanese publishing giant Square Enix saw a 14 per cent increase in net sales.
That's according to the company's financials for the three months ending June 30th, in which the firm reported ¥85.6 billion ($602 million) in net sales. Profit was up 66 per cent for the quarter, bringing in ¥6.3 billion ($44.3 million).
Square Enix's HD Games division – aka console and PC titles – saw an 142 per cent increase in sales year-on-year, clocking in at ¥29 billion ($204 million).
The biggest contributor to this spike in sales was Final Fantasy 16 for the PlayStation 5, though speaking to investors – as reported by Bloomberg – president Takashi Kiryu said that the game had failed to meet expectations. A shocking turn of events for Square Enix.
The company's MMOs saw a 22 drop in sales year-on-year, making ¥11 billion ($77.3 million for the quarter.
