Sony is making an electric car dubbed Afeela with Honda for debut in 2025. And Sony announced at its press conference today that it is partnering with Microsoft on AI and other technologies for the mobility industry as it gets ready to launch the car.
Izumi Kawanishi at Sony showed that the car is making progress since it was announced a couple of years ago at CES. On stage at CES 2024, Kawanishi brought the Afeela car out on stage using a PlayStation 5 game controller to drive the car.
The car is loaded with technology for gamers, from its bright front dashboard screens Sony displayed cool images. And in the backseat, there are screens for passengers to play games as well.
Microsoft exec Jessica Hawk joined Kawanishi on stage to talk about the partnership, which will involve AI tech and Microsoft’s Azure computing infrastructure. That was a rare sight of cooperation between Sony and Microsoft. The aim is to redefine the relationship between people and mobility.
