Sony has donated $2 million towards humanitarian aid in Israel and Gaza
videogameschronicle.comPlayStation parent company Sony has donated $2 million towards humanitarian aid for those affected by the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Sony said it had donated the money to the Japanese Red Cross Society and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Additionally, it said various Sony Group companies are running programmes matching donations made by employees to non-profit organisations.
Devolver Digital has also made an unspecified donation to support Palestinians impacted by the current hostilities.
“We’ve donated to United Nations Relief and Works Agency who are providing humanitarian aid to Palestinian families, we ask you to consider donating if you’re able,” the publisher said.
On Thursday, US president Joe Biden said a deal had been struck with Egypt to allow the delivery of limited aid into the neighbouring Palestinian territory of Gaza.
People there are in urgent need of essentials like food, water, fuel and medicine after Israel launched a blockade of Gaza 11 days ago.
The move was made in response to Palestinian militant group Hamas killing 1,400 people in an incursion from Gaza on October 7.
Gaza has since been devastated by a series of Israeli airstrikes that have reportedly killed over 3,000 people, and Israel is currently preparing to launch a ground assault.
With a similar $2 million donation, Sony was one of many companies in the games industry that donated towards humanitarian aid efforts in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion of the country last year.
