Right now is an exciting time to be a fan of horror gaming, especially for those playing Sons of the Forest, as Endnight's follow-up to The Forest continues to dominate the Steam charts. The indie title has been doing remarkably well since it launched in early access recently, initially beating out Starfield to become the most wishlisted game on Steam. Perhaps nobody expected it to do so well, especially against some stiff AAA competition, but it shows how well the indie scene can thrive in this industry.
It wasn't just hype, either. When it came out in early access on Steam, Sons of the Forest sold two million copies in just 24 hours, which is an incredible achievement for any studio, let alone an independent one. With the ominous titular forest crawling with creatures and cannibalistic tribes, not to mention its crafting and cooperative aspects, the survival horror title seems to be doing much better than a lot of people expected, which can be evidenced by its position on the charts.
Sons of the Forest Loses Spot As Most Wishlisted Game on Steam
Not only is Sons of the Forest the best-selling game on Steam right now, even beating out Valve's own Steam Deck device, it's also currently number six on the list of most played games on the platform. That's impressive in and of itself, but the fact that numbers one to five, such as Dota 2 and Apex Legends, are all free-to-play games means that SotF is actually the most played purchasable game on Steam at the moment. The game currently has a review score of «very positive,» with more than 49,000 users rating it. Given the current kudos for Endnight's sequel, it will be interesting to see how well it does when the game exits early access and is fully released.
