The first major DLC update for Sonic Frontiers is coming this week.
Sega has sent an email to players informing them that the DLC, which will be named the ‘Sights, Sounds and Speed Update’, will be rolling out on March 23.
The email doesn’t give any further details about the DLC, though Sega did previously publish a content roadmap for 2023, and its plans for DLC 1 seem to fit in with the name of the first update.
The roadmap stated that the first update would include a Photo mode, a Jukebox and new Challenge modes. This fits in with the ‘Sights, Sounds and Speed’ title.
“The first of three free content updates for Sonic Frontiers is coming 23rd March,” the email reads, adding: “With newly added features and modes, it’s time to experience the Sights, Sounds, and Speed of the Starfall Islands.”
The content roadmap suggests that the second free DLC update will include something called ‘Sonic’s Birthday’, as well as an Open Zone Challenge mode and new Koco characters.
The third and final free DLC will include new playable characters and new story content.
Sega stated last month during an investor Q&A that despite Sonic Frontiers’ Metacritic score being lower than it had hoped, the game has sold better than it expected.
When asked to evaluate the quality of Sonic Frontiers based on critic and player reaction, one exec replied: “Although it is true that the Metascore was slightly lower than expected, we believe that we were able to release a title that has been well received by many people around the world, thanks to the extremely high ratings from users.”
