Meta-horror visual novel Slay the Princess is locking in a date, just in time for the spookiest season. Black Tabby Games will unleash Slay the Princess on October 20, 2023 for PC, Mac, and Linux via Steam.
Black Tabby Games has already made itself known in the horror space through Scarlet Hollow, and Slay the Princess looks to be pretty terrifying in its own way. The general idea is that you wake up in some woods, driven by the disembodied voice of the Narrator (Jonathan Sims from The Magnus Archives) to slay the princess. Doing so, he says, will save the world.
But what do you choose to do when you reach her cabin? Do you pick up the knife and bring it down? Do you try to talk things out with the princess, voiced by Nichole Goodnight, or simply do what you’re told? And what if you’ve been here before?
Without saying too much, the narrative starts to twist and shift in ways you can already see in the newest release date trailer:
The draw of Slay the Princess, as we’ve seen in demos here, is how its narrative threads weave and intersect to reflect decisions. Slay the Princess is, essentially, about trust. Some really sharp writing and incredible art work, complemented by the fully voice-acted lineup, really makes Slay the Princess shine. Its focus on creating an exact vibe and idea earned it a spot on our list of favorite games from PAX East 2023.
Suffice to say, I’m looking forward to this one, and October is the perfect month for it. Black Tabby also confirms Slay the Princess is coming to Steam Deck, so the terror can go on-the-go, too. Make your choices and live
