Part of what makes The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim so special to fans is the stories they can tell within the game, independent of the main or side quests. Another game that channels that spirit is Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor with its Nemesis System. It creates an emergent gameplay experience filled with player-driven stories and was one of the game’s key selling points. Part of the fun of that system was failing and seeing how that enemy would continue to grow. Thanks to some patents by Warner Bros., the Nemesis System hasn’t made its way to other games but has now found an adaptation in Skyrim.
