NASA ALERT! Devastating 180-foot asteroid hurtling towards Earth tomorrow
A humongous 180-foot wide asteroid named Asteroid 2022 QB22, nearly the size of a large commercial aircraft, will just about miss Earth tomorrow as it hurtles by at staggering speed, according to NASA. The asteroid is large enough to end all life and cause total annihilation on the planet if it makes surface impact on Earth. Although it is safe to say that people on Earth will remain unharmed as it passes by Earth at a safe distance, it still has caused space agencies to worry due to the extremely close distance with which it will pass by Earth.
The Asteroid 2022 QB22 will just miss Earth on September 9, which is tomorrow at a distance of just 5.4 million kilometers as it flis by at a speed of 63,000 kilometers per hour. This asteroid does not pose any viable threat to Earth and will pass the planet safely though it was still classified as a potentially hazardous asteroid due to the extremely close proximity of its encounter with Earth.
More and more asteroids have been flying past Earth albeit at a safe distance. NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office monitors the skies with telescopes and keeps track of upcoming near-Earth object (NEO) flybys. With the help of advanced telescopes, more than 750,000 asteroids have been discovered to date, of which more than 27,000 are near-Earth asteroids.
An asteroid was responsible for triggering the extinction of dinosaurs when it crashed on Earth. Now, scientists have located the place of impact of the asteroid which caused an extinction-level event. It is located at Chicxulub, near the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico where it impacted the planet more than 65 million years ago.
