One of the real-time idle surprise hits of 2020 is coming to mobiles soon. Available on PC and Switch since 2020, The Longing will drop on Android and iOS on December 18, 2023.
The Longing is a point-and-click adventure game taking place in an underground kingdom. The PC version was released during the pandemic lockdowns, which made the game, well, more relatable. It’s lonely but fun, spooky but sweet, and long but has you longing for it!
You’ll be Shade, the lonely lackey of a tired elderly king. The king’s order for Shade is to wait for 400 real-time days while he goes to sleep to regain his energy. Your only job is to wake him up after 400 days. The catch? You can’t leave the cave until it’s over!
During the isolation, explore caves and hidden libraries with full-length e-books from Project Gutenberg, build furniture and decorate the cave with crystals and minerals. As Shade, you crawl through the dungeons, picking up the cave’s history, stumbling upon secrets and biding your time. There aren’t any enemies or battles to spice things up, so that might wear you out a bit.
The clock ticks away even when you’re offline. But, but, you can speed up the in-game timer by 2x, 3x or more, by decking out the cave. That gives you a chance to wrap up the 400-day wait early! Head to the official website of the game to get more details.
If one year sounds too long, then here’s a secret! The Longing will drop hints to you about an escape to the outside world. So, which path will you choose? Be the king’s loyal aid, or ditch him and head to the surface?
The Longing has got a bunch of endings, but I wonder how many days it’d take to tackle them all! Until you wait for the game, check out our latest scoop on Deadly Nightmare: Unwanted
