Part one of the Sister Wives Tell-All featured a few bombshells, including Robyn Brown breaking down about Christine Brown leaving their shared husband, and fans think that she was just pretending to care. Sister Wives season 16 followed the Browns facing their most difficult challenge yet, the pandemic. The family was more divided than ever, as each household set its own rules for dealing with the pandemic. Family members in the various households were forced to spend much of the season away from one another. This was hard for the four wives' children, as they were not able to see their father and siblings very often. It ultimately led to the biggest surprise of the season. Though many fans wished Christine would leave Kody for years, his strict COVID rules, his reluctance to move back to Utah, and their lack of a physical relationship led Christine to officially announce that she'd left their spiritual union.

The first episode in the three-part reunion series found the sister wives and Kody watching footage of Christine saying she felt that family events were hostile. She added that she felt everyone hated her but admitted that it was her own self-doubt that left her feeling that way. Robyn said that she wanted to make sure Christine never thought that she hated her, but many fans think Robyn is faking at least some of her sadness at Christine leaving.
