The Silent Hill 2 remake is a faithful recreation of the original game mostly thanks to Bloober Team, as the Japanese staff wanted to make more drastic changes.
Speaking in a new interview with Famitsu, series producer Motoi Okamoto commented on the remake and its faithfulness to the original game, revealing that the Japanese staff involved in the production of the game, including designer Nobutada Oda and sound producer Akira Yamaoka, wanted to make some drastic changes over the original. It was Bloober Team that pushed for the remake to be as faithful as possible, and in the end, it was decided to go with a faith remake, modernizing elements where needed.
While some of the elements of the original Silent Hill 2 will be modernized in the remake, one thing the team was keen on keeping intact was the atmosphere and immersion, and UI items will be kept to the minimum, such as an element that displays when near an item. Thankfully, the UI can be turned off entirely, so players can rely on James looking towards items like in the original to find them. One element that Motoi Okamoto stresses won't be in the remake is the infamous "yellow paint" to guide players to the next objective. The notes James takes on the map, the blood stains on the ground, and other roadblock elements will be there to guide players.
