If you’ve been holding off on diving into Sifu until its new expansion hits the internet waves, then your time is almost here. Sloclap has announced that they’ll be dropping the first DLC, the Arenas Expansion, on March 28, 2023.
The Arenas Expansion for Sifu bulks up the core game with an estimated 10 hours of content. This is the sum of 9 new areas, 45 new challenges, and 5 game modes. Among these modes are wave-based survival, time attack, king-of-the-hill style capture, targeted manhunt, and something called “performance mode.” It looks like “performance mode” is about avoiding damage. You can see for yourself in the new trailer.
Originally released in February 2022, Sifu became something of a beat-’em-up darling. If you haven’t played it before, Sifu is a game about what it’s like to be in your 30s. Time stops mattering, your body seems to age rapidly, and every failure is a new reason to feel obsolete. Mixed with this poignant theme is a tale about martial arts and vengeance.
Personally, I bounced off Sifu for basically no reason at all. I really need to circle back to it. I enjoyed what I played, but I think I got distracted by something neat. The Arenas DLC might be a good excuse to do so.
Sifu’s Arenas expansion will be a free upgrade to the base game, and it will release on March 28. It’s currently available on PS4, PS5, and PC. Alongside the DLC, the game will also become available on Steam and Xbox.
