The Suicide Squad is back in action in a brand new DC Black Label series, Suicide Squad: Blaze. The creative team of Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell, who previously worked together on the critically acclaimed John Constantine: Hellblazer for DC Comics, are introducing a new Suicide Squad team alongside a roster of familiar faces including Peacemaker, Harley Quinn, and King Shark.
Si Spurrier and Aaron Campbell are back together following their run on John Constantine: Hellblazer, a Black Label series that ran for 12 issues, ending in 2021. Suicide Squad: Blaze features a new group of inmates gaining incredible powers at a great cost as part of the newest Suicide Squad roster put together by Amanda Waller — while the popular Task Force X members readers know are forced to deal with them on their deadly missions. We spoke with Spurrier and Campbell about how the project came to be, the new characters, and what readers can expect from the series.

How did this project come to be following your previous work on Hellblazer?
Aaron Campbell: I think where it came about is that Chris Conroy, our amazing editor, was really heartbroken about Hellblazer ending after issue #12 and wanted to keep the team going. And Si and I definitely want to keep working together as much as we possibly can.
It came down to what makes the most sense for the two of us, in terms of a book that can raise our profile even further, get people excited and energized about us as a team, and turn some heads at the end of the day.
