Scott Eastwood reveals why he didn't return for The Suicide Squad. The actor is the son of the legendary nonagenarian actor and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, with some of his first roles coming in his father's films — Flags of Our Fathers, Gran Torino, and Invictus. Scott starred in David Ayer's 2016 Suicide Squad as GQ Edwards, a Navy SEAL Lieutenant who assists Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) during Task Force X's mission, seemingly killed during the film's climactic battle.
Similar to Zack Snyder's Justice League, the production of Ayer's Suicide Squad was plagued with controversy behind-the-scenes at Warner Bros. After the first teaser trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, revealing a decidedly darker take on the team of DC villains, the studio later made attempts to make the film more quippy and comedic. The result was a theatrical cut that was a commercial success but was far from Ayer and audiences' original vision for the film. Gunn eventually replaced Ayer for the follow-up, which did return a few characters in Flag, Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney).
