Scott Eastwood, who portrayed GQ Edwards in David Ayer's Suicide Squad, originally had more scenes in the unreleased cut. Similar toZack Snyder'sJustice League cut, the Suicide Squad franchise went through a lot of changes behind-the-scenes as Warner Bros. had different ideas for Ayer's DC project. When initially conceived as one of the major cornerstones of the DCEU, Suicide Squad was being marketed as a dark complex story centered on multiple DC villains. The first trailer that they debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 was barely reflected in later marketing as the studio wanted to make it more comedic.
While the theatrical 2016 cut became a commercial success, it was never Ayer's original product. Just like the Snyder Cut, an Ayer Cut for Suicide Squad exists, with at least 40 minutes of unseen footage. Several storylines were also retooled, including Jay Hernandez's Diablo actually surviving, while Jared Leto's Joker had a more prominent role. One of the many characters that Ayer introduced was GQ Edwards, played by Eastwood, a Navy SEAL Lieutenant who worked with Joel Kinnaman's Rick Flag. Towards the ultimate climax during Suicide Squad's theatrical cut, GQ was one of several who got killed off.

However, as details keep emerging about Ayer's unreleased Suicide Squad cut, it appears Eastwood's character was meant to have a bigger role. In a new interview with Insider, the actor talked about his involvement with the Suicide Squad project, including working with Ayer after their collaboration on Fury. When initially pitched the idea to join the DCEU, Eastwood shared how Ayer had a lot more planned for GQ, stating the following:
