Warning! Spoilers ahead for Ayashimon chapter 12!
Maruo's character in the new Shonen Jump series Ayashimon perpetually gives mangaka Yuji Kaku the freedom to push shonen clichés to the extreme without having to worry about receiving any negative pushback from fans. The latest chapter is no exception. Maruo calls out how a particular instance feels just like a manga, so when what he expected would happen does in fact occur, readers can't help but embrace it wholeheartedly.
By chapter 12, one of Ayashimon's unexpected heroes Urara, the recently self-proclaimed yakuza boss, is now the main target of the most powerful yakuza leader Chairman Doppa who began asserting his dominance over the other families after the death of Urara's father. Upon learning Urara was her father's heir, Doppo now wants nothing more than to kill her, so she needs protection, and fast. She eventually turns to a biker gang that was loyal to her father for help. Leading up to a confrontation, the manga-obsessed Maruo can't help but compare the scenario with a common manga trope in street-punk manga where the hero must prove their worth by fighting the biker gang's leader in a one-on-one battle.

Ironically, readers (and Maruo) actually feel let down when the biker gang's leader falls on one knee to Urara after discovering her heritage. In most cases, this twist would have been considered a blessing since it would have diverted from an overly used trope. But readers want Maruo to live his dream (and end his One-Punch Man hell) so much so that they don't care if this involves having to trudge through a plotline that they have read countless times already.
