Shenmue fans can rejoice as the highly-anticipated anime adaptation finally has a release date. Premiering on both Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, Shenmue the Animation will be available on February 5 at 9:30 PM PT.
This news comes from the official Adult Swim Twitter account which revealed the release date alongside a brand-new trailer. In the trailer, we see Ryo Hazuki's initial confrontation with Lan Di who kills Hazuki's father in order to steal a "mirror" his father was protecting.

Shared by GameSpot, also revealed are the voice actors who will be starring in Shenmue the Animation. Protagonist Ryo Hazuki will be voiced by Japanese voice actor Masaya Matsukaze with Austin Tindle as the English voice actor. Main antagonist Lan Di will be voiced by Takahiro Sakurai in the Japanese version with Scott Gibbs voicing him in the English version.
We've known for a while now that Shenmue had an anime adaptation in the works for 2022, although this is the first time we've actually been given a release date. The show was first announced back in September 2020, and October 2021 was when we got our first sneak peek and a vague 2022 release date.
We also know that the show will run for thirteen episodes and is being directed by Sakurai Chikara whose previous work includes One Punch Man and Naruto. Shenmue the Animation also has the series creator Yu Suzuki on board as an executive producer, which may explain why both trailers we've seen so far look to be very faithful recreations of the games.
