Developer Guerrilla Games reportedly had to slow down Horizon Forbidden West to allow players to read loading screen tips. The sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn, recently released on PS4 and PS5, sees protagonist Aloy venture to a new region in an effort to stop a deadly plague. Screen Rant's review of Horizon Forbidden Westpraises the title's use of the PlayStation 5's hardware, with the console's solid-state drive allowing for nearly instantaneous loading.
Building upon the foundation laid by 2017's Horizon Zero Dawn, and utilizing new-generation hardware for the PlayStation 5, Guerrilla Games has created a gorgeously immersive open world in Horizon Forbidden West. The post-apocalyptic title features a massive map with a wide range of different biomes, ranging from dense jungles to sandy beaches, and each is rendered in extraordinary detail. The PlayStation 5's SSD also means that new-gen versions of games can load almost instantly, although this feature is not always beneficial. Sucker Punch Productions reportedly slowed down Ghost of Tsushima load times on PS5, since instantaneous loading made it impossible to read loading screen tips.

In an interview with Engadget, game director Mathijs de Jonge revealed that Horizon Forbidden West load times were also intentionally slowed down on PlayStation 5. The machine hunting sequel, like many games,displays useful tips for players to read while they wait for the game to load. The PS5's SSD means that loading takes only a few seconds, however, so Guerrilla Games made it necessary to press a button after a short pause in order to continue playing to let gamers actually read the loading screen tips.
