The Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury anime will premiere sometime in October, the anime’s official website announced on Saturday. The new anime will be the first new Gundam TV anime in seven years.

No announcements regarding the series’ staff, cast, or setting have been made. Last September, Bandai Namco Entertainment's Chief Gundam Officer Koji Fujiwara teased that the series would be something that “even young generations will support”. This will be the first series since 2015s Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
The first 25-episode season of Iron-Blooded Orphans aired during the Fall 2015 and Winter 2016 seasons. A second 25-episode season followed, airing during the Fall 2016 and Winter 2017 seasons. The series was animated by Sunrise, with Tatsuyuki Nagai (Anohana, A Certain Scientific Railgun) directing and Mari Okada (O Maidens in Your Savage Season, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou) handling the series composition. Masaru Yokoyama (Fate/Apocrypha, Fruits Basket) composed music for the series.
A live-action Gundam movie presumed to take place in the Universal Century timeline is currently in the works, and is being produced by Netflix and Legendary Pictures. Some concept art teasing a live-action version of the iconic RX-78-2 model was revealed in November.
The most recent Gundam anime project, a film trilogy adapting Yoshiyuki Tomino’s Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway's Flash light novel, was released in Japan on June 11, 2021 and made available to stream on Netflix on July 1.
