New footage from Shazam: Fury of the Gods has been revealed at this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas. In 2019, Shazam, who is one of the most iconic DC Comics heroes of all time, finally made his cinematic debut. Played by Chuck star Zachary Levi, the first Shazam! film, directed by David F. Sandberg, followed the story of young Billy Batson getting godlike powers that activate whenever he shouts Shazam, turning him into a grown superhero. But as much as it was a superhero origin story, it was also Billy's journey of accepting his new family.
With the 2019 installment being a commercial and critical success, Warner Bros. is continuing the Shazam adventures with the sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Levi is reprising his role as grown-up Billy while Asher Angel continues to play the teenage iteration. Originally scheduled to hit theatres on June 23, 2023, Warner Bros. recently changed the DCEU schedule and is bringing Shazam: Fury of the Gods to fans earlier. It will now arrive on December 16.
