There definitely is a Community film in the works, at least according to the series creator, Dan Harmon. The story outline is apparently already in place and negotiations on a production schedule are currently underway.
The confirmation by Harmon comes in the wake of rumors begun by actor Alison Brie who previously said that “legitimate conversations” about the movie were happening behind closed doors. Picking up on the statements made by Brie, Harmon recently noted that “legitimacy is here.”

“I’ll confirm what Alison said which is that legitimacy is here, conversations and agreements are happening,” Harmon told TheWrap during an interview. “There’s a story. Who knows if we’ll end up sticking to it, but it was something we had to compile in order to take it out and court various venues. And now negotiations happen.”
Harmon was on the other hand reluctant to provide a timeline for the ongoing project. “Now, I say that with such caution because sometimes the audience is like ‘so, that means what, a year, two years?’ I could have said what I just said three years ago and it would have been almost as accurate,” Harmon remarked. “And can you imagine if I had said that three years ago? That’s me setting people up for three years of abusive neglect and making them feel forgotten. And it’s hard enough to just say nothing.”
While the series creator held back from announcing any kind of a release date, Harmon however noted how the production was “a matter of when and not if.”
