As popular as the Sonic The Hedgehog movies are, that version of Sonic won’t be taking over the games any time soon.
The two live action Sonic The Hedgehog movies have been far more successful than anyone would have thought. Especially after that awful original character design for the blue blur.
While there has been some cross promotion between the movies and select Sonic mobile games, it sounds like Sonic Team has no intentions of adapting the movies into their own games or incorporating any elements at all.
With Sonic Frontiers, the next major game release coming later this year, series producer Takashi Iizuka was recently asked if he has considered adapting aspects of the movies.
Iizuka emphatically ruled out the possibility, suggesting he’d very much prefer for game Sonic and movie Sonic to be independent of each other.
That said, he’s not above including movie Sonic as a guest character in future games, something that’s already been done with mobile games Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle.
‘Because the movie Sonic came from where the game started, trying to take the movie qualities and stick it back into the games doesn’t really work well,’ he explained to VGC.
‘What I want to do is stay faithful to our game Sonic and really expand on the game Sonic to incorporate new ideas that are going to get people excited about new games.
‘The game Sonic is really the core essence of the character, so instead of trying to take the movie and put it inside of the game, I really wanted to expand on the game to make it appealing to everyone.’
