So Sega has a lot to answer for when it comes to the recent Sonic Frontiers footage, but one thing they have answered is whether or not Sonic will be kissing a human girl in the upcoming entry. Yep, no Sonic kissing confirmed.
Speaking to Axios (via IGN), Sonic Frontiers producer (and long-time Sega designer) Takashi Iizuka mused on the issue when it was brought up, stating: “I don’t think we’ll be doing that again.” Iizuka has a clean conscience when it comes to the game in question too, as he didn’t even work on it — instead opting to direct Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Riders, and Sonic Rivals around that same time. Iizuka also points out that two of the main Sonic rules are still in effect: including the obvious “go fast” rule, and the “he can’t swim” rule.
For reference, the scene in question is from Sonic 2006, when Sonic the Hedgehog kissed a human woman. It was immediately clowned on directly after release, and when coupled with the fact that the game itself was one of the most egregious entries in the “3D” saga, it’s one of the only notable things that anyone talks about when referencing the infamous 2006 game.
