Despite being released in 2017, it seems that Nier: Automata may still have a few secrets to be found. The action-RPG from PlatinumGames features a good deal of futuristic hacking and slashing mixed in with an existential plot that requires a player to pay attention in order to achieve all the endings Nier: Automata has. Recently, the Nier: Automata online community believed it had stumbled on one last secret from the game developers as a player managed to find a previously unnoticed door in the game.
A video posted by Twitter user Lance McDonald took the internet by storm when it showed a secret room within Nier: Automata's Copied City. The player, currently in control of A2, enters the small room, in which there is a ladder. Taking the ladder down, the player then sees a long hallway, leading to some spires. Just to tease the fan base, the video ends just as the player begins to run down the hallway.

Another video showed what was at the end of the hallway, with Nier: Automata's secondary protagonist 9S being the character viewers see this time around. 9S appeared to enter a new location which players had dubbed the Church. With all this excitement around a new area in the game, fans immediately began theory crafting on what the reason behind the existence of this church. However, it appears that the area is not an official one after all, and was created by some Nier: Automata modders to show off a new set of tools that will allow the community to make their own new environments like the Church.
