Five years since it arrived, Sea of Thieves has become one of Xbox's biggest new franchises in a long time, so it's no wonder the game is still getting a prime spot at the Xbox Games Showcase. Today the team at Rare used the virtual stage to reveal its next huge pirate crossover saga, this time with Monkey Island.
Like the Pirates of the Caribbean crossover of a few years ago, the Monkey Island expansion will arrive in a free update and give players new locations to explore, new characters to meet, and naturally, new days to save. See it for yourself in the new reveal trailer.

Rare said players will meet familiar faces such as Guybrush Threepwood, Elaine, LeChuck, Murray the Demonic Talking Skull, and more. The team further explained how gameplay will perform differently as a nod to the Monkey Island series' history.
You’ll get to visit freely explorable versions of both Mêlée Island and Monkey Island, solving puzzles in a point-and-click style adapted for Sea of Thieves first-person view – and it’ll all take place in the Sea of the Damned, so you’ll have no interruptions from other players as you relive the iconic series in a brand-new way.
Built in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games, the three Tall Tales making up The Legend of Monkey Island (all of which will arrive for free) will bring swashbuckling Sea of Thieves adventures, presenting an authentic story with a single hypothetical question at its heart – what if Guybrush and co. arrived on the Sea of Thieves?
Swashbucklers won't need to wait long to jump into the new content. Sea of Thieves: The Legend of Monkey Island arrives in a free update on July 20.
