Neither Stu (Matthew Lillard) nor Sam’s (Melissa Barrera) mystery mom made an appearance in Scream 2022; having Sam’s mom be in Scream 6 can finally answer Stu’s absence. Both Sam’s mom and Stu are mentioned a few times throughout the film, but neither appears. Although Scream 2022 had many legacy characters, audiences didn’t forget the one character they were hoping for, Stu.
Scream 2022 brought in an entirely new generation of Woodsboro high schoolers: Sam, Tara (Jenna Ortega), Liv (Sonia Ben Ammar), Chad (Mason Gooding), and Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown). Many of these characters connect to the past films in some way (ex: Mindy & Chad are Randy’s Meek’s niece and nephew). The new victims of Ghostface’s wrath are Sam and her sister Tara, likely because Sam’s birth father is Billy Loomis, thus meaning her mother had an affair. Although Sam’s mom is not in the film, she is referenced numerous times, and having her appear in Scream 6 would not only answer a Scream 2022 plot hole of who she is, but she could also give context of what happened to Stu.

Unfortunately, Stu didn’t appear in Scream 2022, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late for him. In order for Stu to make an acceptable return, Sam’s mother needs to make an appearance first.
