When we last saw Mace Windu, things weren't going great for him. What was meant to be a simple arrest of Chancellor Palpatine turned into the start of full-blown space fascism and the rise of Darth Vader. Oh, and he died.
However, in true Star Wars fashion, it looks like he's bored with being dead now. Samuel L. Jackson has gone on the record saying that Windu is alive, and he's up for reprising the role in some form. He revealed that he's expressed this desire to Bryce Dallas Howard, in the hopes of joining the many other older Star Wars characters who have made big reappearances.

"There's a huge history of people with one hand returning in Star Wars", Jackson says on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. He agreed with the host that Mace Windu is still out there "somewhere", albeit one-handed.
On returning to the series himself, Jackson added, "The only person I've ever said that to about coming back is Bryce Dallas Howard. I just did a movie with her, and she directs episodes of The Mandalorian. So... you think you might be able to hook a brother up?"
While we did see Mace Windu very much die at Palpatine's (and kinda Anakin's) hand in Revenge of the Sith, he'd hardly be the most farfetched return to the series. At the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, it's revealed that Darth Maul is still knocking around, despite being cut in half and pushed down a great height. And who can forget the best line from The Rise of Skywalker? "Somehow, Palpatine returned". We don't even need reasons anymore.
