The RuneScape team has an update on the results of the June game jam, and gives a look at some of the ideas, projects, and other features that we could see in the future.
Last week was a big one, with the announcement of the Necromancy release date of August 7th, along with a cinematic trailer that tells the story that will guide the introduction of the first new combat style, an entire new season surrounding it, and of course the Necromancy skill itself.
For the results of the game jam, there are some projects that the team chose to spotlight getting featured this week. One project from Mod Blkwitch looks at some dungeon reworks that happened way back in 2012 and those reworks are now a bit outdated considering the current graphics and a series of overhauls and visual upgrades that the team has done. This mod is currently working on the next part of the Overworld refresh in RuneScape so it's good to look back and see the changes. Further graphical updates have also been part of this game jam, including uptates to gobline and an overhaul of the Necromancer's Tower.
Another project highlighted this week is one potential way to add more customization options for capes. Capes are important. One of the devs worked on a list of potential quality of life changes affecting everything from fast travel through dense forest, changes to spawns, and even a system that sees clues changing color, specifically Elite and Master scan clues, depending on how close you are. This series of changes is likely to eventually find its way into RuneScape after further development and QA testing.
