Sly Cooper was one of the iconic mascot characters that saw a trilogy of games released on the PlayStation 2 along with Ratchet and Clank and the Jak and Daxter games. The first three Sly Cooper games were developed by Sucker Punch, the developer that would later go on to make the Infamous games and, most recently, Ghost of Tsushima. Sucker Punch’s Sly Cooper trilogy was wrapped up nicely, but fans were still glad to see the series return in 2013 with a fourth game developed by a different studio, Sanzaru Games.
Many players, and possibly Sanzaru Games itself, had assumed that Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was going to be the beginning of a second trilogy of Sly Cooper games, but this was not the case. To make matters worse, the game ended on an unresolved cliffhanger. However, rumors have been circulating recently that a long-awaited fifth Sly Cooper game is in development.
Sly Cooper Website Updated Amid New Game Rumors
A source has now corroborated these numerous rumors about a possible Sly Cooper game in development. Speaking on the Xbox Era Podcast, Shpeshal_Nick hinted that a new Sly Cooper game could possibly be announced during a PlayStation showcase event in September 2022. This information was apparently revealed to him by an inside source. The developer for this new Sly Cooper game is as yet unconfirmed but may have already been leaked to be PixelOpus, the studio behind Concrete Genie.
While none of these rumors are particularly concrete by themselves, they all corroborate the same story, which is that a new Sly Cooper game will be announced at some point in late 2022 and that PlayStation is planning a major games showcase for September.
