Fans should not be expecting a traditional origin story for The Batman as the film's star Robert Pattinson elaborates on how the reboot will tackle it. With Batman being one of the world's most popular superheroes of all time, he has been depicted multiple times outside of the comics. Whether it be video games, animated and live-action TV shows, movies, Bruce Wayne has conquered the screen a plethora of times. One of Bruce's core character traits is the tragic origin story of what led him to suit up as a bat and fight crime in Gotham City. After losing his parents as a child, Bruce made it his life mission to make sure no one would ever have to lose their loved ones.
With so many depictions of the Caped Crusader, Batman's origin story is practically universally known even to casual viewers. It has gotten to a point where his background is almost joked about because of how often it's retold through various mediums prior to The Batman. Thanks to Batman Begins, it became a solid modern adaptation of Bruce going from losing his parents to training to becoming Gotham City's ultimate protector. Even though the origin story can take some liberties, there is only so much any storyteller can do to tinker with how Bruce becomes Batman without messing with the foundation.
