Ridley Scott’s latest film project,, has just surpassed a massive global box office milestone. It’s sailed past the $200 million mark, including Tuesday’s figures.
According to Deadline, the Joaquin Phoenix-led biopic has earned $200.7 million worldwide, with $141.1 million coming from international box office sales.
After previously working together in the 2000 historical drama Gladiator, Phoenix and the director have once again joined forces for another epic. Napoleon, which ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim described as an unforgettable epic from the director, follows the rise and fall of the controversial historical figure Napoleon Bonaparte.
The synopsis for Napoleon reads: “Napoleon is a spectacle-filled action epic that details the checkered rise and fall of the iconic French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Against a stunning backdrop of large-scale filmmaking orchestrated by legendary director Ridley Scott, the film captures Bonaparte’s relentless journey to power through the prism of his addictive, volatile relationship with his one true love, Josephine, showcasing his visionary military and political tactics against some of the most dynamic practical battle sequences ever filmed.”
Produced by Scott and Kevin Walsh for Scott Free and based on a screenplay written by David Scarpa, Napoleon also stars Vanessa Kirby (Pieces of a Woman) as Josephine, Matthew Needham (Stutterer) as Lucien Bonaparte, Tahar Rahim (The Serpent) as Paul Barras, Ben Miles (Tetris) as Coulancourt, Ludivine Sagnier (Peter Pan) as Theresa Cabarrus, John Hollingworth (Poldark) as Marshal Ney, Paul Rhys (Vincent & Theo) as Talleyrand.
