Before he was accidentally murdered by Morty, Rick and Morty fans were introduced to an intergalactic hitman named Krombopulos Michael, and aside from the fact that he loves killing, nothing was known about the mysterious character. However, one spin-off comic gives fans deeper insight into Krombopulos Michael’s origin, including a full explanation of his bizarre name.
In Rick and Morty season 2 episode 2 “Mortynight Run,” Rick and Morty are spending the day at a space arcade called Blips and Chitz, but in the middle of their carefree adventure, Rick conducts an arms deal with a dangerous assassin named Krombopulos Michael. Rick sells Michael an antimatter gun that is powerful enough to kill a mysterious target that is being held by the Galactic Federation. Upset that Rick would supply a hitman with the means to kill someone, Morty hijacks Rick’s Space Cruiser and flies to Federation Headquarters to stop Michael. In doing so, he accidentally kills the Krombopulos Michael, thereby forever eliminating him from the Rick and Morty universe–or so fans thought.

In Rick and Morty #34 by Kyle Starks, the issue opens with Krombopulos Michael signing up with a hit squad to take down an enemy base and eliminate a specific target. Before Michael goes on this first mission with his team of assassins, the leader of the squad tells everyone to introduce themselves. The first person to say their names is an alien named Michael who was someone the leader of the group previously met. After a few more introductions, the Michael Rick and Morty fans are familiar with says his name, which makes the squad commander audibly upset. The leader says there can’t be two
