Teen Mom star Amber Portwood and ex Andrew Glennon's extensive custody battle has Andrew for years to gain custody of her son James. Amber has been open in regards to her mental health and has made steps to help herself, and helping others with bipolar once she was diagnosed. Her life has not been easy and her relationship with Andrew was no exception.
Their turbulent relationship ended in a horrific way when Andrew accused Amber of domestic violence while holding their son on the 4th of July. Leaked footage of the incident included audio and Ring camera footage. Andrew claimed Amber had swallowed an entire bottle of her medication, coming at him with a machete while he was holding their son. The world was horrified by her actions, and even though Amber denied the machete, the ring camera footage said otherwise. Amber was charged with domestic battery, criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon, and domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old. Amber was sentenced to 906 days of probation and a 26-week parenting class.

The former Teen Mom couple's custody battle started in July 2019. In July 2022 The Sun reported Andrew was granted sole custody and primary physical custody of their son James. If this wasn't enough of a blow to Amber, Andrew was also granted the right to move James from Amber's home in Indiana to his home estate in California. Amber stated in Teen Mom OG that this was the last thing she wanted, but unfortunately, the courts will allow this.
