Dataminers have found evidence that PS5 exclusive Returnal is coming to PC, although there’s been no official announcement yet.
When PC games such as Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone started appearing on PC it caused a great deal of controversy amongst fans who were previously used to first party PlayStation games only being on console.
Many suggested that Sony would only ever port older PlayStation 4 games, but it was clear that would never remain the case if the PC versions proved successful, and so it’s no real surprise to find Returnal is next in line.
Its presence on Steam is not yet confirmed but dataminers believe it’s already on the service, using the codename Oregon.
Although the name Returnal is not used, the SteamDB entry includes references to Atropos and Tower of Sisyphus, which are elements from the game with very distinctive names.
Oregon also uses tags including ‘sci-fi’, ‘rogue-like’, and ‘bullet hell’, which describes the game perfectly.
It was also listed in the Nvidia mega leak last year, which so far has proven extremely accurate despite Nvidia’s attempt to pretend it was merely speculation.
That list also includes cross-gen PlayStation exclusive Sackboy: A Big Adventure, which suggests that will be making its way to PC soon as well.
Originally released last April, Returnal was only a mild commerical hit but hailed by many, including us, as the best game of the year.
So far the PlayStation 5 has only had three first party exclusives: Returnal, Demon’s Souls, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. There now seems no reason why the other two won’t also come to the PC, although Rift Apart would require an SSD to work.
