To the surprise of many, Bend Studio is releasing an update for the version of the PSP game Resistance: Retribution that's playable on PS4 and PS5. Sony has been bringing classic PSP games to the PlayStation Plus Premium tier of its subscription service for the past couple of years, with Resistance: Retribution one of the most noteworthy handheld games available on the service.
Originally released in 2009, Resistance: Retribution was developed by Bend Studio as a spin-off of Insomniac's Resistance FPS franchise. In Resistance: Retribution, players take on the role of Lieutenant James Grayson as he battles the Chimera threat in a story that takes place in the time between the first two main series Resistance games. But whereas the main series Resistance games are first-person shooters, Resistance: Retribution is actually a third-person shooter, giving it a distinctly different flavor than its console counterparts.
Resistance: Retribution was added to PS Plus Premium on February 20, 2024 with full trophy support and a suite of other bells and whistles to make it the superior way to experience the game. However, there are some issues with Resistance: Retribution on PS Plus Premium, including a problem where the final story-related trophy doesn't pop. That issue is being addressed in the new update coming next week, making it possible for more players to unlock the Resistance: Retribution Platinum trophy. But that's not all.
Update 1.02 for Resistance: Retribution also fixes some of the game's lingering bugs and also brings back the Infected game mode. Infected was a bonus mode in the original Resistance: Retribution on PSP that could previously only be unlocked by connecting the game to Resistance 2. Infected is basically a new way to experience the story, as Grayson is suffering from the Chimeran infection, giving him some unique new abilities.
