Overwatch 2 recently announced some huge buffs to the tank role, as well as targeted buffs to Wrecking Ball and Junker Queen, coming in the mid-Season 10 patch. This hero balance and more will arrive with the Overwatch 2 Season 10 halfway point update planned for May 14.
On April 16, Overwatch 2 released Season 10, which added Venture as its first new DPS hero since the game’s launch, overhauled how to unlock Mythic skins, and included balance changes for several characters. Among them, Wrecking Ball received the most changes, with a small rework that improved his ability to act as a solo tank in the Overwatch 2 Season 10 meta.
Now, Overwatch 2 is giving Wrecking Ball, along with every other tank in the game, a little more staying power than before. According to a recent Overwatch 2 Director’s Take, tanks will take 25% less damage from headshots, and will have 50% knockback resistance, up from 30%. On a global level, armor is being reverted to be more effective against low projectile damage effects, and the HP recovery passive is changing to recover 10 Health plus 5% of the hero’s maximum, more than doubling the healing of high-health tanks like Reinhardt and Mauga. Lastly, Junker Queen’s Commanding Shout is getting a buff, as is Wrecking Ball’s impact damage, Piledriver, and Minefield.
Since Overwatch 2’s transition into 5v5, tanks have been in a tough spot, as they’ve had to do double duty for their teams. While Overwatch 2 has been able to alleviate some of this struggle, hopefully, these changes will help tank players fulfill their roles more easily.
Unfortunately, Orisa fans are still reeling from the big nerfs she recently got from Overwatch 2. Luckily, as a high-armor hero, Orisa will benefit from these buffs as well, so this increase to her survivability can help offset the impact of her recent nerfs a little.
